Show after show, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker has demonstrated her profound knowledge of the musical works of Johann Sebastian Bach. With Mitten wir im Leben sind/Bach6Cellosuiten, the choreographer continues her quest for a dance style that captures the very essence of the composer’s language. She has invited internationally renowned cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras to join four dancers on stage at Comédie de Genève to bring the score to life. The latter is summoned in all its dimensions, alternately underlined, challenged and put into perspective by the choreography. This fascinating embrace between music and dance brings out the individual character of the six Suites, as much as the cohesion of their overall project.
A discussion will be held after the premiere on Tuesday 5th of September with Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, Jean-Guihen Queyras et Stephan MacLeod.
