La Bâtie – Festival de Genève 2024 follows a particularly generous and prolific 47^th event. However, last year’s festival has given rise to economic challenges that have been compounded by the collapse of specific support schemes for projects in the Greater Geneva and Lake Geneva area. Hence, the 48^th event has become a modest Greater Geneva festival, but a great Geneva festival all the same, focusing on privileged, committed, and loyal collaborations.

Artists capture current events and social changes. In this 2024 festival, many of the creations are rooted in the myths and legends of ancient times and in the history of past and present struggles. Their writing sheds light on a new past.

Iconic figures from the international artistic scene will light up the eighteen days of the festival. By turns spectacular or intimate, narrative or abstract, their musical, theatrical, and dance works and creations share a common attention to a past that has shaped our artistic, aesthetic, political, and social forms and identities. Today is no longer a time for fear, denunciation, or confrontation: artists invite us to rebuild the present and look forward together to a future that has always been uncertain.
