The solo project of former member of wacky rock outfit Shht James De Graef, Loverman showcases the outstanding song-writing talent of the Belgian musician. In a hushed atmosphere, with a deep, soothing voice in the tradition of Leonard Cohen and Nick Cave – from whom he borrowed his pseudonym – Loverman spins out his love songs like so many journeys to the heart of the great desert plains. Dark and sensitive, the artist picks up his guitar and sheds all superfluous arrangements to take us into a world of melancholy sweetness that will have shivers running down your spine. Here and there, a few discreet strings underline a shared intimacy. With some tracks reminiscent of the heyday of Lee Hazlewood or the graceful brightness of Stuart Staples of the Tindersticks, and others a little more spirited to keep the audience on its toes, Loverman makes a stunning entry into the folk tradition with some gorgeous, timeless tunes.
To open the night, Lausanne-based singer-songwriter Delia Meshlir will unveil some of the highlights from her second album, Bring Back the Light, released in 2023. A successful blend of folk, pop, and blues rock, carried by a warm, melancholy voice, Meshlir’s music is an endless delight.
