Ahouvi means “my love” in Hebrew. After politics and then religion, this third opus in Yuval Rozman’s Quadrilogie de ma Terre tackles love and skilfully demonstrates how one can get used to violence that is always about to break out, whether within a couple or between peoples. Although Rozman’s theatre is an outcry against borders, in this play, barriers gradually build up between Tamar, born in Jerusalem, and Virgile, the young Frenchman. They may be overflowing with life and desires, but both are full of complexity. We enter their intimate lives at the time of their breakup and travel back through five years of a stormy relationship. The tone seems playful, the anecdotes light, the process inconsequential, but appearances are deceptive. The minor flashbacks prove devastating. This artful play on daily life combines laughter with song, criticism, moodiness, violent outbursts, pain, and ambivalence. A trio of intense performers serve up the story of this couple on the verge of a nervous breakdown: Stéphanie Aflalo, Gaël Sall, and Roxanne Roux. And let’s not forget Yova, the couple’s dog – the first witness and catalyst of this mess.
