Pioneers, precursors, visionaries, the free-spirited Young Gods never hold back, especially when they set off on a new sonic journey. At La Bâtie, they’ll present their version of composer Terry Riley’s contemporary masterpiece In C, which he created in 1964. The score, which fits on a single page, comprises 53 musical phrases to be played in order and in a loop, but otherwise leaves almost total freedom to the performers. Everything is in place for a spellbinding exploration fraught with mystery. The concept may be simple, but to pull it off requires acute listening skills and unfailing concentration. The result is so fascinating that the music exudes a creative power that defies rationality. To bring this meeting of heritage and modernity to life, we couldn’t have dreamt of a better setting than the majestic Fort l’Écluse. Be ready for an absolute trip!
